Yay! I've challenged myself!

Today I've got something a little different... a colour challenge!  Like I said in yesterday's blog post, I've been spending a bit of time looking at blogs and tutorials lately and I also bought some new goodies.  Up until now, I would never have considered myself a card maker but I think I may be changing my opinion on that.

One of the places I found on my internet trails was a challenge blog that focuses on colour... click on the pic and it will take you to their blog:

I really liked their last challenge featuring these colours but I didn't get myself organised in time!

I decided that I would DEFINITELY take part in the next challenge and I have to say that it's really made me step out of my comfort zone.

I'm not a huge fan of orange and even though I've got daughters we're not really a 'pink' family but I'd challenged myself so I had to stick with it and I'm so pleased I did!

In the end I made two cards for the challenge, both featuring gorgeous gnomes from My Favourite Things.  There is also a matching die set which I bought as well... sure makes card making much quicker!

So here's is my first card for the challenge:

I created the background by masking off a rectangle and using Distress Ink to add some colour... I really like the large white border too!  The gnome and kites were coloured with Distress Markers and I like how vibrant that turned out.  I also used my Wink of Stella clear brush on the clouds but the sparkle doesn't show up in the photo.  The little stars are some left over confetti that I used in my December Daily shaker pocket... and the colours were perfect for this challenge!

The kites and clouds are from this stamp set (Sunny Skies) from Lawn Fawn... and there's a matching die for this one too:

By the time I'd finished this card I was brimming with ideas so I did some more die cutting, stamping and colouring and made a second card for the challenge:

I made the background exactly the same way as on the previous card and then added my die cut pieces to create a wee scene.  All the elements were coloured using Distress Markers.

The sun is from the Sunny Skies stamp set and the toadstool and snail are from the MFT Gnome set.  The top of the toadstool is actually hot pink but it's turned more red in the photo.  I added some Wink of Stella to the toadstool and it's got a nice little shimmer.

So there you have it... two more cards and a completed challenge that really did challenge me!
