Watercolour sketch daisy card

Hi there :)  Today I'm back with another card... and another card challenge as well!

In one of my daily ramblings around the internet I came across My Favorite Things colour challenge.  They described their latest colour challenge as an 'unexpected colour combination' and I have to admit that it's one I've never done before.

Here's the colour combination for Challenge #44:
The challenge closes Wednesday, May 11th at noon EDT

I started off with an idea in my head and then this morning something COMPLETELY different came to me so I went with the flow.

I decided to use some more NBUS (Never-Before-Used Schtuff)... this time it was a die that I bought just before Christmas and never even opened... and a stamp set I bought at Autumn Escape in April last year.  To my credit, I HAD actually stamped ONE of the sentiments ONE time!

I started off using Wilted Violet, Carved Pumpkin, Mowed Lawn and Twisted Citron Distress Inks to create a watercoloured background.  I 'smooshed' my colours on a plastic mat and then used a wide paint brush to add water to my paper so that the colours would blend together.

I really like how the colours blended together but still stayed separate too... Distress Inks are still one of my favourite things.

While my background was drying I die cut the sketch daisy out of watercolour paper and then added some colour to the flower and leaf inserts using the same Distress Inks and my water brush.

Then came the layout stage... I knew I wanted to add a simple sentiment but I didn't know which stamp set to use and after looking at the daisy outline on the background I thought something 'scripty' might fit the feel of this card.

I remembered finding my Gabis Word stamp set from The Scrapbook Diaries when I was organising my stamps so I had a look and sure enough I found exactly what I wanted!  I stamped in black and then heat embossed with my 'new favourite' Queen's Gold embossing powder.

I used thin foam tape to add the flower and leaves to the card and then I ran the daisy outline through my Xyron and it stuck to the card perfectly!  I love how the 'loops' on the 'f' look similar to the shapes of the flowers and leaves.

Then I thought my card was finished so I laid it on top of my card base... but it really didn't look that fabulous at all.

I went hunting through my cardstock stash and found a piece of dark purple cardstock that went with the Wilted Violet perfectly so I made a mat and added it to my card.

At this point I was sure my card was finished and I sent my sister a photo... but while we were talking on the phone I realised that it needed 'something more'... so I got out my NBUS sequins!

Oh Yes I'm LOVING these little babies!!!

So here is my finished card!

I totally love the shine and sparkle the sequins give my card... and it makes it really seem like something just a little bit 'fabulous'!

Thanks so much for stopping by my blog today... I hope your day is as fabulous as mine xx
